Course Evaluation at Kazakhstani PTC

From November 30 through December 11, in accordance with the Individual Action Plan of the Partnership between the Republic of Kazakhstan and NATO, the first “Military terminology in Multinational Operations” course was conducted in the Partnership Training Center (PTC) of the Defense Institute of Kazakhstan’s Armed Forces. The course is aimed to train Kazakhstani military officers for working in the multinational forces headquarters during peacekeeping operations.

The course is distinguished in that it’s designed fully by the PTC experts for the requirements of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The course syllabus has been approved by foreign states' PTC experts and meets international standards.

Because of the specialization of the course the participants list included servicemen of the “KAZBRIG” peacekeeping brigade of the Airmobile Forces, MoD National Defense University, and the military sub-faculty of the University for International Relations and World Languages. In total, 26 people attended the course.

The students were familiarized with the structure and organization of work within NATO headquarters, management methods in crisis situations, rules of preparing military briefings, operational order, and the concept of Military Conflict Law.

During the course, in accordance with agreements reached earlier, a group of experts from NATO International Staff, NATO Transformation Strategic Command and NATO School conducted course evaluation. The methodical skills of the kazakhstani instructors were given a favorable reception by the NATO experts.

The course is planned to be conducted on regular basis twice a year, first for kazakhstani servicemen, and later involving foreign military personnel, first of all from the Central Asian countries.

Besides the terminology course, the PTC staff is working on developing other courses aimed at raising the level of skills of the peacekeeping troops, increasing interoperability, popularizing the culture, customs and traditions of the CA countries.

The Partnership Training Center is, first of all, a national educational institution. Resting upon the basic principles of PTC functioning and aiming to contributing into strengthening regional security, the Center is open for training to the personnel of Partner countries, first of all from the Central Asia Region.

In 2010, the Center is planned to receive the status of Regional Partnership for Peace Training Center.
