Adriatic Eagle 08 Exercise in Macedonia

Adriatic Eagle 2008 Opening Ceremony

The Adriatic Eagle 08 exercise is being held at Ilinden military barracks near Skopje, Macedonia; it started on 19 September and will continue till 29 September.

The exercise involves over 100 servicemen of the special units of the armies of the Adriatic Group (A3) member-states (Albania, Croatia and Macedonia). It follows the namesake exercises in Albania (2006) and in Croatia (2007), and constitutes a sublimation of the knowledge and experiences gained at previous exercises. Specifically, the Adriatic Eagle 08 exercise is focused on techniques and procedures employed during the operation of a multipurpose repelling tower, firing exercise in Shooting House, decision-making by the Exercise Joint Headquarters and other activities. The military of the partner nations have an opportunity to exchange their experiences in training of special units, as well as acquire new knowledge.

Colonel Zoran Dodevski, Special Operations Regiment commander, stated while opening the event, that the cooperation among Macedonia, Croatia and Albania - the A3 countries that had begun building their North Atlantic future with the US-backed 2003 Tirana Agreement was an example of a true partnership. The Republic of Macedonia proceeded with “implementing the reforms and making efforts to modernize the Macedonian Army and its interoperability”, added Colonel Dodevski.

“The most important thing is … building confidence and cooperation amongst all of us”, stated Lieutenant-Colonel Orce Jordev, Commander of the Special Operations Battalion, who is in charge of the exercise.

In the course of the exercise, the soldiers use the Partnership for Peace funded training sites. In addition to that, the Partnership for Peace Information Management System (PIMS) In Country Coordinators Ivan Tanovski and Igor Djordjevic transferred and set up the required equipment on two locations (Workgroup & Internet café) at the Ilinden Barracks.
