Cooperative Marlin 08 Exercise in Split, Croatia
The exercise Cooperative Marlin is a NATO command post exercise designed to educate NATO partners in alliance concepts and procedures, leading to the augmented mutual understanding and interoperability.
This year the exercise took place at the Naval Base "Lora" in Split, Croatia on 1- 12 September 2008. Approximately 60 participants represented the following NATO/PfP countries: Albania, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Romania and Ukraine.
The Cooperative Marlin 08 exercise was divided into two parts. The first week was reserved for lectures delivered by NATO instructors: they covered various aspects of modern warfare. The second week was reserved for conducting the exercise proper within the framework of the special scenario envisioning an armed conflict and an earthquake among other proceedings. The participants of the Exercise teamed up in syndicates for working in separated rooms on solving various related issues.
Partnership for Peace Information Management System (PIMS) program was entitled with a major task of providing the connectivity and the necessary computer equipment; to facilitate the content flow was yet another objective of PIMS support to this event. Mr. M. Sijan, PIMS In Country Coordinator (ICC) was dispatched; 25 laptops were shipped to the site to be installed in 5 syndicate rooms, administrative room and executive committee facility; additional equipment included wireless access points (APs), printers and projectors for the plenary and the syndicate rooms. The Cooperative Marlin 08 participants were briefed on PIMS activities and PIMS powered resources, including the online instances and technical support capabilities. The participants obtained a possibility to access all the content pertaining to the Exercise.
