NATO Avalanche Warning Course 2008

The Norwegian National Joint Headquarters with the Centre of Excellence for Cold Weather Operations has the pleasure to invite the addresses to bid for quotas on the annual NATO Avalanche Warning Course (NAWC) 2008. The Norwegian Winter Warfare School at Østerdalen Garrison will conduct the course in the period of 7 to 14 February 2008.

The main objective of the NATO Avalanche Warning Course 2008 is to give the students further knowledge and develop their skills concerning snow conditions and avalanche hazard.

· Be able to use metrological data and knowledge about snow together with avalanche theory to assess the avalanche hazard

· Be drilled in different snow stability test and understand their limitations

· Understand how an avalanche team work, their mission and daily routines

· Understand the importance of route planning in mountains concerning the avalanche threat.
