Republic of Azerbaijan
Azerbaijan, officially the Republic of Azerbaijan is a country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. It is bounded by the Caspian Sea to the east, Russia to the north, Georgia to the west and northwest, Armenia to the southwest, and Iran to the south. The Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan is bordered by Armenia to the north and east, Iran to the south and Turkey to the west and southwest. The country's territory also encompasses several islands in the Caspian Sea. Azerbaijan remains involved in the military conflict with neighbouring Armenia over the Mountainous Karabakh region: by May 1994, when a cease-fire took hold, Armenian forces held not only Nagorno-Karabakh, but also a significant portion of Azerbaijan’s territory outside the former “Nagorno [Mountainous] Karabakh Autonomous Oblast”. Azerbaijan has been a co-founder of GUAM and has been a member of the Commonwealth of Independent States since September 1993. The country is a member of the UN, OSCE, Council of Europe and the NATO Partnership for Peace (PfP) program.
Date when the country joined PfP : signed the Framework Document in 1994 becoming a member country of PfP initiative.
